Gripper’s Finals Facts:

With the finals just a week away, the Gripper offers you his profound insight into the upcoming finals series . . . .

Chris Judd cannot win finals on his own.

Unfortunately Blues fans have found this out the hard way.  Two years running.  As great as Juddy is, he cannot single-handedly win finals games.  Home and away games? Sure, but finals are different.

For the Blues to win a finals game they just need two simple missing ingredients – a back line and a forward line.  While Brett Ratten is confident that Jarrad Waite can play in both halves of the ground at the same time, I’m not as convinced.  And a forward line staffed exclusively by elves probably won’t cut it come finals time.  Given his form of late, maybe the Fev will help the Blues out in September???

Adam Goodes cannot win finals on his own.

Just repeat everything I said above, and replace the reference to the Fev with Barry Hall.

Bomber Thompson cannot win finals on his own.

I’m just getting lazy now, but you get my point.  Essendon has done incredibly well with a list that boast one star midfielder and a bunch of kids.  Their hopes and dreams, however, are about to be cruelly and savagely shattered.

Collingwood are still a very, very good side (but it is great to see them lose).

After the weekend’s poor showing by the Pies, you could hear the mutterings of “what ifs” and “just maybes” by Cats fans, Hawks fans, West Coast fans and even Saints fans.  The fact is, the Pies may have Australia’s greatest knob as president but they are still a great football side.  Better than every side in the comp with the obvious exception of the Cats.

I think West Coast fans should hold off from celebrating just yet.

They do not do drug testing in the West.

Bottom of the ladder last season, second chance finals spot this season.  Nobody suspicious?
